Cognitive Classroom & The Arrowsmith Program

WHAT IS THE ARROWSMITH PROGRAM?
The Arrowsmith Program is a cognitive training program that strengthens cognitive skills for students and adults with learning disabilities including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, auditory and/or visual processing disorders, attention difficulties and non-verbal learning difficulties. The Arrowsmith Program is also designed for individuals who do not have identified specific learning difficulties but are challenged with issues such as organization, processing, problem solving, communication, memory, and independence.

HOW DOES THE ARROWSMITH PROGRAM WORK?
The Arrowsmith Program consists of up to 12 cognitive exercises that strengthen core cognitive skills that are the underlying causes of learning disabilities. Each student’s individualized program includes only the exercises needed to address their specific learning difficulties. Research indicates that up to 30 years after completion of the program, students have maintained their cognitive improvements. Once the improvement is in place, the individual maintains this gain by using the cognitive area in everyday functioning.

WHAT DOES THE COGNITIVE CLASSROOM LOOK LIKE AT CAMPERDOWN ACADEMY?

Cognitive Classroom students attend four Arrowsmith Program cognitive training classes a day. Additionally, students attend a tutorial class, math class, and an elective class. They also have two recess breaks and a lunch break. In addition, students have 30 minutes of cognitive training homework five days a week along with any homework assigned in their remaining classes. Camperdown offers a free “Homework Club” after school for students to complete Arrowsmith homework.
